Are we heading towards a fibber society?

Are we heading towards a fibber society?

Just imagine a society where everyone enjoys lying, engages in frauds and puts deceitful allegations over each other. What do you think about the future of such a society and how will the world look at it? In Angutara Nikaya, Buddha mentions that societies based on falsities and lies are prone to suffer utter chaos and collapse. Certainly, truthfulness is the fundamental requirement for the existence of any harmonious and peaceful society. According to the reports of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on police and court disposal of cases for crime against women in India, 8 out of 10 registered FIRs in the years 2016 to 2018 were false or unsubstantiated, quotes Rajesh Sehgal in his book “NOT GUILTY: Fabricated Implication Report-FIR”[1] while between 2006 to 2016 only 1 out of 7 dowry related cases resulted in conviction.[2] These facts coincides well with the RTI reports circulating on social media platforms stating the conviction rate in 498A and DV cases to be as low as 4%. False rape allegations too follow similar trends.[3] In fact two years ago, a court in Delhi had advised Delhi commission for women (DCW) not to lodge false rape cases.[4]  It is evident that majority of the cases filed by Indian women are of deceitful nature. Besides the fact that the legal system is too liberal for women in India, there is no strict law for the punishment of deceitful women. Consequently, evil women do not hesitate to lodge bogus complaints as they easily get away without facing any criminal proceedings or civil damages thus promoting legal terrorism in the country. While on the other hand, innocent men and their family members have to bear immeasurable mental torture, public humiliation, financial and reputation losses. This is one of the major cause of ever increasing men suicide in the country.

Following the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890 and Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 which lacks provision for shared parenting, child custody is often awarded in favor of the mother. In this scenario, a child is forced to live with a deceitful mother. Now since “a mother is the first teacher of every child”, it is apparent that the custody of children with deceitful mothers would definitely inculcate habits of deceiving and fraud engagements. As children are both the makers and markers of societies therefore children with bad habits would certainly impart such habits to their peers which could eventually turn a society into a deceitful one. Therefore it becomes extremely mandatory to punish the false accuser women. Since all the laws in India are unilaterally meant for the protection of women, a strict punishment law is urgently required to punish the false accuser women against the misuse of gender biased laws. Besides averting from heading towards a fibber society, a strict punishment law for false accusers would drastically reduce the number of fabricated cases and hence the burden on the judiciary to a large extent. This will also aid the genuine victims in acquiring fair, timely and economical justice.
